This applies whether you're talking about kids or pets, and, let's face it, we adults really need to be spending more time outside, too. These are a few of the nicest parks in the Sullivan, IL area. Just Down the Road: Three Favorite Parks Near Sullivan, IL Sullivan City Park We're lucky to be able to recommend our own local park, which is open from 6am until 9pm daily. Here you can bring a picnic to eat and sit, bring your dog along, let the kids go skateboarding, and even sit at the dock and throw in a line. There's plenty of shade, lots of walking paths, playground equipment for the kids with age-appropriate areas, and grilling spots. The park is kept up well and has clean restrooms. The family-friendly atmosphere means you can feel safe taking the kids here for a day out. Greenhill Cemetery For millennia, graveyards were places to avoid and were widely seen as unlucky or even scary. During the Victorian period in England, however, graveyards were transformed into cemeteries: places of beauty and peace. Just be sure to leave no trash whatsoever and to pick up any waste your dog might deposit. Kaskaskia River Fish and Wildlife Area Head to this beautiful nature preserve if you want to take great photos, enjoy some great fishing, go bird watching, or hike your troubles away. They also have free parking and good areas for picnicking. This is also a popular spot for kayaking and paddleboarding. Hunting is allowed in the preserve, too, but be sure to observe all signage and follow the rules. For fishing, bass and catfish are plentiful, and you're also very likely to see wildlife while you're there. You can camp here if you're really keen to get the kids out of the house for longer! We enjoy visiting all these places whenever nature calls and it's time to get away from it all and unplug.
